The Turning premieres @ MIFF

One of our most recent film collaborations will be making its debut at next month’s Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF).  The MIFF Premiere Fund-supported film Tim Winton’s The Turning is produced by Robert Connolly and Maggie Miles (Balibo, MIFF 2009) and sees some of Australia’s most acclaimed directors, actors, documentarians and screenwriters vividly bringing to life Winton’s vision. Featuring contributions from David Wenham, Mia Wasikowska, Justin Kurzel (Blue Tongue, MIFF 2005), Tony Ayres (The Home Song Stories, MIFF 2007), Warwick Thornton as well as our very own SST Composer Ryan Walsh.

Polymorphous on ABC 1

The wraps are finally off some of the cool stuff we’ve been working on with the ABC over the last couple of months. First off the rank is our original score for “Polly Borland – Polymorphous” by SST composer Ryan Walsh.

Directed by Alex Chomicz (Half Mongrel, The Laundry) and produced by Filmfolk’s Meghan Carlsen (Full Catch, Coast to Kosciuszko, Made From Memory) for ABC TV, the documentary was created over a two year period, with contributions from not only the artist herself, but from a diverse range of internationally recognisable friends, celebrities, gallerists and family, including her husband and Director John Hillcoat (The Road, Lawless), friend and actress Cate Blanchett (Elizabeth, The Aviator) and legendary singer-songwriter Nick Cave.

Have a look behind the scenes during the recording of the score here. You can also listen to some of our favourite cues  from the project here.

The film centres on eight-year old Callum who in order to escape the confronting reality of his home life, retreats to the world of comic books. Stepping forward as their favourite fictional heroes – Power The Kid and Dark Raven -Callum and his sister search for the courage to banish their evil tormentor forever.

Check out a preview here.
